EV Chargers for Malls & Shopping Centres

Every Shop Visit, a Full Charge.

EV chargers for mall parking across India — 3.3 kW to 22 kW Type 2 AC chargers with OCPP 1.6J / 2.0.1 and per-session metering, and help integrating them with your CPO or charging management system. Turn mall dwell time into a customer amenity and a new revenue stream.

Why malls are rolling out EV charging

Four commercial reasons beyond the sustainability headlines.

Dwell Time = Charge Time

Mall visits typically last a couple of hours — a good window for a meaningful AC top-up. EV chargers in mall parking turn parked time into a reason to visit.

Footfall-Linked Offers

Each charging session is metered and recorded over OCPP, so your charging management system can tie sessions to dwell time and repeat visits — the basis for free-after-spend promotions.

Size the Supply for the Bays

20+ chargers in one parking lot can overload the DB. Our chargers do not do dynamic load balancing, so size the supply for the chargers you install, and add a Titan meter on the charger feeder to see the real demand they add.

CPO-Partnership Model

Many mall operators prefer to let a charge point operator (CPO) run the chargers and share revenue. Our chargers speak OCPP 1.6J and 2.0.1, we help with integration to the CPO's platform, and for bulk orders we can adapt firmware to suit it.

Deployment by parking type

Each zone of a mall has different constraints. Start simple — covered anchor-tenant bays — and expand based on utilisation data.

Anchor Tenant Parking

Reserve 4–8 EV-capable bays near high-traffic anchors (grocery, cinema, food court). 22 kW Type 2 chargers, covered parking preferred.

Basement Parking

Ventilation is critical. 7.4 kW or 11 kW chargers suit most basement bays; your consultant should check the layout against NBC 2016 fire and ventilation provisions and the local fire authority's requirements.

Rooftop / Open Lot

Full 22 kW deployment possible. IP55-rated enclosures for open-air bays; add surge protection at the DB for direct sun and monsoon exposure.

Valet-Operated Bays

A few 11 kW or 22 kW AC chargers at the valet stand, so valets can rotate cars on and off charge during a visit. Our range is AC only; if you want DC fast charging, pair our AC chargers with a specialist DC supplier.

What we supply, and per-session metering

Tech OVN supplies the chargers and meters, a bill of quantities, commissioning support and help with OCPP integration to your chosen CPO or charging management system. For bulk orders we can adapt charger firmware to suit your platform. Site surveys, SLDs, DB work, bay marking and signage are done by your electrical contractor.

Every charger ships with a built-in Class 1 energy meter — and for an independent check on billed kWh (useful for audit trails or CPO revenue sharing), upstream Titan EV charging metering provides Class 0.5S accuracy on the supply circuit.

Frequently asked questions

Six questions mall operators and facility managers ask before rolling out EV charging.

Start with a block of EV-capable bays near the anchors and expand on utilisation data. Check your state's building rules — Maharashtra's 2025 policy, for example, requires new commercial buildings to make at least 50% of parking EV-ready and existing ones to retrofit at least 20%. Laying spare conduits during the initial electrical work is cheaper than a retrofit later.
Type 2 AC chargers of 11–22 kW suit mall parking and cost far less than DC fast chargers. How fast a car actually charges depends on its onboard charger: most Indian EVs accept 7.2–11 kW AC, so a 22 kW unit charges them at that rate, and only cars with 22 kW onboard chargers use its full output. Tech OVN makes AC chargers only.
Three models: (a) free with parking above a minimum spend (loyalty-linked); (b) per-session payment through the charging management system's or CPO's app; (c) a flat rate per hour. Many malls combine (a) and (b) — bundled for loyalty members, pay-per-use for walk-ins.
Tech OVN chargers support OCPP 1.6J and OCPP 2.0.1, the open protocols CPO platforms use. We help with the integration to your CPO's platform, and for bulk orders we can adapt the charger firmware to suit it. Ask your CPO to confirm OCPP compatibility before you order.
Fire and ventilation design for basement charging follows the National Building Code (NBC 2016) and your local fire authority's conditions; your fire and electrical consultants should set the ventilation, detection, suppression and signage requirements for the charging zone. We supply the charger specifications they need for that design.
Few, and mostly for public or fast-charging stations. Delhi's 2026 EV policy has no per-charger grant (the ₹6,000 grant belonged to the 2020 policy). Maharashtra's 2025 policy supports DC fast chargers of 50 kW and above and sets a concessional EV charging tariff; Karnataka's 25% capital subsidy is for fast-charging stations. Haryana offers 20% of capital cost (up to ₹50,000) on public stations in commercial buildings outside FAME cities, Tamil Nadu cuts demand charges for public charging stations, and the central 2024 guidelines cap the tariff for public charging stations. Check current figures in our EV policy guide (/guides/ev-policy-india).

Beyond EV: tenant billing & HVAC monitoring

EV is the headline for a mall, but many malls also run per-tenant energy sub-metering (Titan on each anchor and kiosk feeder) so the CAM bill reconciles to real kWh. On the plant side, HVAC is usually one of the largest loads in a mall, and chilled-water COP tracking with Titan Plus BTU shows how efficiently it runs. Titan Compliance logs fire-pump test runs automatically, giving you a ready record when an inspector or insurer asks for one.
